Conor McGregor Vs Eddie Alvarez At UFC 205?

With UFC 202 in the record books, fans may be wondering what the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion could possibly do to surpass itself.

UFC 205 may be the answer to that question.

Not only will the event mark the UFC’s first card in New York City – where a ban on MMA has only recently been lifted – but UFC 205 already has two of the most exciting fighters in the sport ready to go head-to-head at NYC’s world-famous Madison Square Garden: Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler.

Now, to top everything off, there are talks that UFC Featherweight Champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor may once again be headlining the card in a superfight that could – again – shatter records for the company.

His opponent?

None other than reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez.

To make everything perfectly clear, this fight is far from a done deal.  According to veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani:

But if this match happens, it is guaranteed to make a killing.

Conor McGregor is currently the promotion’s biggest star. His original superfight against the lightweight champ went under when former title holder Rafael dos Anjos had to pull out of their match due to an injury. A fight against Alvarez would be a chance for The Notorious to make up for that lost opportunity.

Conor is also coming off what is easily the most important triumph of his UFC career: his win over Nate Diaz, where he avenged his first and only loss in the promotion.

Alvarez is also coming off the biggest win of his UFC career. The former Bellator Lightweight Champion became the UFC’s lightweight kingpin when he did what Conor did not have the chance to do: topple dos Anjos with a devastating, first-round TKO.

So far, there is no talk of any title being on the line, but it is hard to think of any match that could draw a bigger crowd than McGregor vs Alvarez.

UFC 205 is set to go down on November 12.

UPDATE: “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler has dropped out of his match with Cerrone.
