Conor McGregor Says “The Fight Is Off” After Dustin Poirer Calls Him Out For “Ghosting” On Donation

Conor McGregor seems to be walking back on his agreement to take on Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight on July 10 at UFC 264.

The fighters had been engaging in some predictable back-and-forth trash talk ahead of the event, but things took a sharp turn when Poirier accused his opponent-to-be of not following through on a promised $500,000 donation.

Ahead of their most recent fight at UFC 257 in January, McGregor told Poirier that he’d be donating the money to Poirier’s charity organization The Good Fight Foundation, which has previously donated meals to hospital workers during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and funded a playground for children with disabilities. Poirier went on to win the fight via second-round TKO.

McGregor’s manager Audie Attar fired back at Poirier, and Poirier reiterated that McGregor’s team hadn’t responded to emails about the promised donation following the January fight. In a separate tweet, Poirier said his foundation had sent McGregor’s team three emails regarding the matter and that McGregor’s team had “ghosted” them.

McGregor himself then responded to the accusations, saying that he and his team had wanted to know exactly where the money was going before they sent it. Poirier replied by reiterating that he hadn’t even received a response from McGregor’s team, and McGregor fired back with an expletive-laden tweet of his own.

McGregor wasn’t done, though, and his next round of insults included a declaration that he would no longer be fighting Poirier in July.

McGregor vs. Poirier 3 has been widely announced, but the UFC itself hasn’t officially shared news of the matchup yet. The promotion also hasn’t commented on McGregor’s threat to not fight Poirier.

Basically, it’s a lot of talk and tweeting, but at least now you’re caught up on the drama. We’ll keep you posted.
