Conor McGregor Fans Shouldn’t Get Their Hopes Up For A Khabib Rematch Any Time Soon

Khabib Nurmagomedov has shot down suggestions of a rematch with Conor McGregor… at least for now.

Speaking at the UFC 242 press conference, Nurmagomedov cited McGregor’s lack of success over the past three years as a reason why other potential opponents (such as Tony Ferguson, who defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone last weekend) will take priority over a rematch with McGregor.

“The last three years he only [has] one victory in amateur boxing. How [does] he deserve [a] rematch? He tapped. He begged me, ‘Please, don’t kill me,’ and he talks about [a] rematch,” said Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov’s comments contradict those of Dana White, who has recently spoken about the potential for a rematch between the two fighters. Last year, Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor via submission, cementing his domination throughout the fight. McGregor hasn’t fought since, but Nurmagomedov is scheduled to make his return against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi in just a few months.
