Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles has commented publicly on the arrest of former gym affiliate and black belt Nicollas Welker Araujo, which happened earlier this weekend. Araujo was arrested on suspicion of multiple sex crimes, including child rape and lewd acts with an individual under the age of 14. The 27-year-old was the owner of Overall BJJ in California.
Cobrinha stated that “trust and respect are part of the very foundation of student/instructor relationships. They are principles I expect from my jiu jitsu community. And they are at the core of what Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brand represents. Any breach of that trust is unacceptable. Sexual assault or any inappropriate, unwanted contact are the most egregious examples of violating that trust.”
