It’s a story that’s been unfolding over the last few days in front of our very eyes, but Claudia Do Val has announced that she will be taking Ricardo De La Riva to court over the abuse allegations that were made in her recent interview. The interview was conducted by Paolo Diana and Do Val sat down with her for over an hour to discuss her life and BJJ career, eventually reaching the point where she would explain the real reasons behind her leaving her long-time coach and mentor, Ricardo De la Riva.
Do Val alleged that De La Riva had invited himself over to her house via Whatsapp in order for her to give him a massage, eventually then insisting on returning the favor as well and Do Val described her reactions as “like a statue” and explained that she “was petrified, but he kept going”. She had to fight through tears during the interview in order to get her story out and she’s received an outpouring of support from the BJJ community at large in response to her bravery.
It didn’t take long after this revelation, but Ricardo De La Riva responded to the allegations of abuse via an Instagram post. In his statement, De La Riva claimed that Do Val’s allegation was false and irresponsible, implying that the accusation might ruin his reputation. In response to this, Do Val has now responded to state that not only will she be taking De La Riva to court over this, she also has evidence to be presented to support her claims. Given that she mentions that De La Riva invited himself over via Whatsapp, it’s entirely possible that she still has the incriminating messages or screenshots of them.
