There’s a reason why they call Chael Sonnen “The Bad Guy.” Sonnen is as close to a real life pro wrestling heel as mixed martial arts will get.
Okay, maybe Conor McGregor does a good job of it, too, but Chael was doing it long before “The Notorious” Irishman set foot in the UFC cage.
Like any good bad guy, Sonnen wasn’t just interested in irritating his opponent — former Pride Middleweight Champion “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva — when he stepped onto the scale for the Bellator 180 weigh-ins, he was looking to get under the skin of all the New Yorkers watching the event, which will go down tomorrow night in Madison Square Garden.
“Wanderlei is the past and I am the future,” Chael said as he put his shirt on. “And tomorrow I will give you a present. I didn’t come to this disgusting city to beat Wanderlei. I came here to beat him down!”
The trolling didn’t stop there, either. When Chael and Wanderlei met on stage for a final staredown, Chael mockingly extended his hand to Wanderlei.
The Axe Murderer wasn’t having any of it, though. Instead, he just took a step back and wagged his finger at the Bad Guy.
Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva has been stewing for years now, and tomorrow night, it’s all going to come to an end at Bellator 180.
