Former UFC welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit has announced his retirement from MMA at age 37.
MMA Fighting was the first to share the news.
Condit made his professional MMA debut in impressive fashion in 2002, submitting his AC1 opponent with a rear naked choke in under a minute. He kicked off his career in the WEC with a five-fight winning streak, claiming the welterweight title for the promotion and defending it three times before moving on to fight for the UFC.
Condit claimed the interim UFC welterweight title in a unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz in 2012. However, he lost his subsequent fight against Georges St. Pierre, then lost his next title fight in 2016 against Robbie Lawler in a controversial split decision that earned both fighters Fight of the Night honors.
Following his loss to Lawler, Condit suffered four more consecutive losses before putting himself back in the win column with back-to-back victories over Court McGee and Matt Brown. His most recent fight resulted in a decision loss against Max Griffin this past July at UFC 264.
