Record-setting BJJ world champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida has experienced yet another shakeup in the leadup to his MMA debut with ONE Championship.
According to MMA Fighting, Buchecha will now be facing Anderson “Braddock” Silva, a kickboxer with a 3-1 MMA record. This will also mark Silva’s promotional debut. The date of the fight — September 24 — will remain the same.
The jiu-jitsu legend was most recently scheduled to face Thomas Narmo for his debut. The reason for the change in opponent has not been made public at this time.
This is the latest in a long line of changes made to Buchecha’s ONE debut. He was initially scheduled to fight in February of this year against Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane, but the matchup was later canceled, and Buchecha’s debut was rescheduled for April against Ji Won Kang. That fight, too, was canceled after Buchecha’s would-be opponent had to withdraw due to injury, and in August, Narmo was named as Buchecha’s opponent for the September fight.
Buchecha vs. Silva will take place on Friday, September 24.
