We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida make his professional MMA debut at ONE Championship.
The record-setting IBJJF World Champion was due to make his first appearance for the promotion in April against Ji Won Kang, who fought earlier this month to a KO victory against Amir Aliakbari. However, MMA Fighting has reported that Kang had to withdraw from his bout against Buchecha due to injuries sustained in his most recent fight.
The promotion has been unable to find a new opponent for Buchecha in time for the April 14 date, and the fight has been called off.
The original report says that there is still potential for the fight between Buchecha and Kang to be booked at a later date, though the bout hasn’t been officially rescheduled at this time.
Buchecha, who is widely considered to be among the best jiu-jitsu athletes of all time, announced his retirement from competitive BJJ competitions in the gi in July last year. He signed with ONE at the end of July, and his fight with Kang was to be his first.
