On Halloween night, the WWE showed exactly how much they value Brock Lesnar when they gave him the victory over Cain Velasquez in a little over 2 minutes. After a pretty decent start in wrestling for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Velasquez was signed by the WWE to face Brock Lesnar last night. After a build-up preview appearance at the beginning of the month, wrestling fans were in anticipation for the rematch. There were some key differences between the two matches of course.
Considering this was a title match on a halloween night PPV, some fans were left feeling a little shortchanged by the early finish. After trading a couple of strikes, Brock Lesnar won via Kimura from the bottom. This alone was far removed from their initial meeting almost a decade ago. On October 23rd 2010 Velasquez knocked out Lesnar in the first round at UFC 121. It was after the bell rang however, that things truly took a turn.
Velasquez was took multiple chair-shots from Brock Lesnar at the end of the match. Although admittedly, this is pretty par for the course in WWE. This is when he had to be saved by his partner in the WWE universe, Rey Mysterio. It was later revealed that this short-lived match was forced due to a scheduled surgery for Velasquez’s knee.
Despite the upcoming surgery and poor start to his career, Velasques is signed to the WWE for 3 years. Add that to the fact that the 37-year old was last seen getting blasted into the stratosphere in the first ESPN main event, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be getting into the cage again anytime soon. Regardless, Velasquez will always go down as one of the greatest Heavyweight Champions. No matter how many scripted fights he loses, his reputation is secure.
