Last weekend it was Brasilia’s turn to host an IBJJF-promoted tournament. The inaugural installment of the Brasília Open was held at Esportes do Cruzeiro Gymnasium, and Gracie Humaitá’s Fernando Toshio Tsushima was crowned grand champion of the absolute black belt division.
Fernando Toshio won the open-weight division after overcoming André Alberto of Gracie Barra in the final. He also won the heavyweight class, beating Luciano Gonçalves of Academia BSB in the decider.
Kim Terra of CheckMat won the lightweight division, while Canada’s Jake Mackenzie of GFTeam shone at middleweight. Recently-promoted Rodrigo Cavaca-black belt Renato Cardoso won at medium heavyweight.
The standout at brown belt was CheckMat’s Jackson Sousa, who won both at weight and open weight after overcoming Nova União’s Adercino de Jesus in the two finals. Check out the team results:
