Clinton Davies is New Zealand’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion. He has won the national wrestling championships a record ten times. He is also a four time National Jiu Jitsu winner.
Davis Clinton is also a blind athlete, and that makes his achievements all the more remarkable. In all the championships that he won, he was competing against able bodied athletes. Davis who is 95 percent blind has been able to trounce athletes with full sight. He is preparing for the upcoming World Masters Championship in Las Vegas, in which he will be again facing off with non-blind opponents.

It feels morally wrong to write about his blindness, as Davies has not let the disability define him. He has in the past declined to represent his country at the Paralympics. He participated in the Commonwealth Games trials with the hopes of representing his country in wrestling at the 2014 games. Even though he lost, it is important to note that he was competing against able bodied wrestlers. Davis said he prefers to be the best among the best and has never lets his blindness stop him from competing.

The 33-year old athlete has collected accolades while breaking stereotypes. It remains to be seen whether he will be lifting the title at the World Masters Championship in Vegas.
