It’s a sad day for the community as BJJ competitor and police officer Christopher Pelton of the Fort Lipton Police Department lies in critical condition following an altercation with a suspect. Sgt. Pelton was shot twice in the face by said suspect last Monday evening outside of a house after responding to a 911 call. Police returned fire and were able to aprehend the gunman.
According to a report from Fox 31: Denver, both the suspect and Pelton were injured in the shootout and airlifted to the nearest hospital. Pelton has undergone two surgeries and remains in critical condition.
Outside of his police work Pelton is an active competitor in the Colorado BJJ scene, winning gold in events like the ISOF Submission Challenge as a blue belt.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help offset the cost of Pelton’s recovery. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here.
