BJJ Community Rallies Behind European Champion Diagnosed With Lymphoma

The jiu-jitsu community is showing support for one of its most respected members. Last week, elite black belt competitor Samantha Cook revealed that she has been diagnosed with lymphoma, prompting an outpouring of support and a fundraising effort to help her through this difficult time.

A 2019 European Open champion, Cook was planning to open a jiu-jitsu academy this year alongside her significant other and fellow high-level black belt competitor, Bradley Hill. The diagnosis of lymphoma and the treatment that it requires put a wrench in those plans.

Soon, a GoFundMe page was established to help Cook as she undergoes treatment. At the time of writing, over £12,000 had been donated. Contribute to that cause here.

Additionally, Hill — who is a frequent Polaris competitor known for his all-action style — has offered to teach fundraising seminars to further support Cook.

Grappling Insider would like to extend our thoughts and support to Cook at this time. She is a fixture of the UK BJJ scene, known for teaching her “Wominars” — all-women jiu-jitsu seminars that have no doubt grown the sport. We know she faces her biggest fight yet, but we’re confident it’s yet another battle she’ll win.

Again, donate here.
