It seems like everyone wants a piece of Ben Askren these days. When Bo Nickel won the National Championships he called Ben out by tweeting him, “Hey. Let’s wrestle.”
That call out picked up a lot of response from different news outlets.
Next Dillon Danis called out Ben Askren on Twitter by tweeting, “Hey Ben if you don’t accept this match with me within 24 hours, you forfeit and I win.”
This brought up a lot of debate as to whether this was warranted or not against Askren. As in, what would be the point of having a wrestling match between these two MMA fighters?
Next Olympic Gold Medalist and arguably the current best wrestler challenged Ben by asking in a twitter poll, “Should Ben and I wrestle?
Of course the answer was overwhelmingly “Yes!”
Well now the match is taking place live May 6th and can be watched live on Flowrestling. They are grappling at Madison Square Garden.
The event is called “Beat the Streets”. They are known for bringing different people together for wrestling superfights. The wrestling is secondary to the cause though. The money raised by the event goes to kids who want to wrestle but can’t afford the camps, coaches, equipment, etc.
Both Askren and Burroughs are former NCAA champions.
I doubt we will see a lot of BJJ, in fact I’m sure we won’t see any. But I can assure you that it will be a grappling match that you will not want to miss!
