Over the weekend, Ben Askren found himself on the receiving end of Jorge Masvidal’s knockout-inducing knee, ending their fight (and his undefeated streak) in just five seconds. The moment set a record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, and it was a while before Askren was able to get helped to his feet and make his way out of the Octagon. He was then transported to the hospital, and understandably, many fans were concerned about the effects of such a devastating blow to the head.
According to Dana White, though, the fighter is doing pretty well considering how bad things looked for him in the aftermath of the fight. At the post-fight press conference, White reassured reporters that Askren was physically fine, even if he may be bummed out about his performance. “He’s good. All of his stuff came back negative, so he’s OK… I’m sure he’s not OK [emotionally] but he’s [good enough],” White said of Askren.
In true Askren fashion, the former ONE Championship fighter is already back on Twitter, even poking a bit of fun at himself. Shortly after the event, he summed up his experience with just three words:
“Well that sucked.”
Boxer and MMA fighter Heather Hardy appeared to defend Askren against his haters on Twitter, chiding people who chose to revel in his defeat. Askren retweeted her comment, but acknowledged his own trash-talking habits by saying that he “probably deserves it.”
It appears that no matter what happens in the cage, this is one fighter who can get knocked out, but won’t stay down for too long.
