Bellator’s first Russia event was capped off with Fedor Emelianenko’s 40th win and 16th knockout.
The 45-year old future hall of Famer showed why he’s generally regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight MMA fighters of all time as he traded heavy punches with Tim Johnson from the start of the first round. A heavy right hand put Johnson out cold at just 1:40 into the first round.
Fedor didn’t speak on retirement after his fight, and it’s hard to imagine where he might be on that decision. On one hand, he’s had a decorated career with wins over some of the most notable names in MMA over the last 2 decades. On the other hand, it would be a great exclamation to the end of his career.
Earlier in the night, we saw undefeated Usman Nurmagomedov secure a first-round RNC against his opponent, Patrick Pietila.
Nurmagomedov fought as his name would imply. With his cousin Khabib in his corner, he earned a takedown before the 1-minute mark and quickly began landing some heavy ground and pound. Pietila reacted by giving up his back, and Nurmagomedov capitalized by locking up an RNC and earning a quick tap at the 4:06 mark.
Bellator 270 is scheduled for November 5 and is headlined by Patricky Pitbull and Peter Queally as they battle for the vacant Bellator Lightweight World Championship.
