World BJJ champion Beatriz Mesquita was the big winner of the Grappling Pro Women’s Grand Prix, held last Sunday in Florida. She beat three opponents on her way to a 10,000-dollar prize.
First up was Fio Signini, whom Mesquita dispatched via armbar. Crystal Demopuolos fell victim to a kimura next.
The final saw Mesquita go up against fellow world champion Talita Alencar. Round one ended 0-0 as Talita resisted a calf slicer. In round two, Mesquita applied a takedown, took the back and finished via rear naked choke.
The men’s welterweight champion, DJ Jackson, retained his title against Brazil’s Vagner Rocha. Their fight went the full five five-minute rounds, with Jackson scoring 28-5.
