One of the most dominant forces in UFC history still wants to compete in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Anderson “The Spider” Silva – who has been hailed by many, including UFC President Dana White, as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time – wants to fight in a world championship Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition.
In fact, according to multiple-time jiu-jitsu gold medalist and occasional training partner, Andre Galvão in an article from GRACIEMAG, it’s a dream of his!
“He really likes BJJ. His dream is to one day fight in a world championship. He always mentions it, but his coaches always advise him not to. He has a very different kind of BJJ, even due to his body type. He can use his body very well. Whenever he can, he accompanies me to championships.”
Anderson Silva holds numerous records in the UFC, including most consecutive title defenses. During his heyday, he was one of the biggest draws for the promotion. He is widely known for his heated rivalry with “The American Gangster” Chael Sonnen, whom he defeated twice.
Silva, however, has not had the best of luck lately. He is currently riding a five-fight no-win streak (4 losses and an overturned unanimous decision victory) and is still hurting from the bad press he incurred over a failed drug test.
Silva is also 41 years old, well over the average age for an MMA fighter.
Could The Spider – who holds both a judo black belt and third-degree BJJ black belt – achieve the same type of dominance in BJJ that he had in MMA?
How many of you would want to see him compete on the mats?
