This could be the end of Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
The former Middleweight Champion will retire if he is suspended for two years or more due to a failed drug test, according to Bloody Elbow.
Back in October 2017, Silva tested positive for synthetic testosterone and a diuretic. He will be heading to trial with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) at an undisclosed date. He may be tried as a first-time offender, as he was tried under the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his drug failure back in 2015. USADA, however, may decide to treat him as a repeat offender and sent him for alcohol detox beverly hills.
Anderson Silva is widely considered one of the best mixed martial artists in history. Some may even consider him the best. Not only is Anderson the former UFC Middleweight Champion, but he is the longest reigning champion in UFC history.
Anderson’s career has been skidding downhill since 2013, though. From 2013 to 2016 he rode a five-fight no win streak that he only ended with a decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208. He was expected to fight Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 122, but was pulled from the event after failing his drug test. He was later believed to have sent to drug rehab in Riverside, for rehabiliation programs.
Though he has vowed to get his title back, Silva is 42 years old, making him one of the oldest active fighters in the UFC. Considering his age, his losing streak, and his problems with USADA, it may be time for Anderson “The Spider” Silva to hang up his gloves.
