Former middleweight kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva is gunning for a fight against the UFC’s reigning Lightweight Champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.
It’s not gold, however, that the Spider is after; it’s a desire to test himself against “an interesting martial artist.”
“I’d like to test myself against Conor because he’s an interesting martial artist,” Anderson said during a UFC 208 media scrum. “His stand-up game is an intelligent game. Not because he’s champion now, but for the martial arts challenge. I’d like to see how these stand-up techniques, his and mine, would mix, and how that would go. But not to fight for a belt or anything like that. For the challenge, an interest, that thing about knowing how a fight like this would go.”

Silva told reporters that he wanted to meet Conor somewhere in the 170’s, a weight class McGregor has fought twice in. Anderson also said he was able to make it down to 174.
Of course, all of this will have to be put on hold as The Spider already has a fight lined up at UFC 208.
It should also be pointed out, with all due respect to Silva, that not only is he 13 years Conor’s senior, but he has not won a fight since 2012.
A match with the UFC’s biggest star may therefore be out of his league.
Then again, the UFC may not be able to resist the possible sales from putting on a fight against two of its biggest names.
