He was out of the game for about two years, but now, it seems that Anderson Silva is back in the fight game… at least for now.
MMA Fighting has confirmed with ESPN that Silva (who just fought on February 9 to a unanimous-decision loss against Israel Adesanya) has agreed to fight the 11-4 Jared Cannonier in Rio de Janeiro for UFC 237. The event is set to be held on May 11.
For Silva, who is now 43, the bout would be of particular significance, serving as his first fight in his home country since 2012.
Cannonier has been signed to the UFC since 2014 and is currently the #9-ranked athlete at middleweight. Though Silva’s career has slowed in recent years, he is somewhat of a legendary figure in the sport, having earned the honor of the longest title reign (2,457 days) in UFC history.
