Michael Langhi has ended his long competition career. The decorated black belt announced his retirement following a loss by points to Renato Cenuto at IBJJF Worlds today in California.
A student and later coach under Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” and head instructor for Alliance, Langhi first started piling up medals in 2005 when he won IBJJF’s World Championship at blue belt at just 19–a feat he repeated at purple and brown belt. In 2009 took home gold at Worlds, Pans, the European Open, and the Brazilian Nationals. He was named that year’s “BJJ Fighter of the Year.” Langhi also won Worlds in 2010, 2015, and 2016.
A spider and open guard master, Langhi currently runs Alliance’s Brazilian headquarters. He has been, and will continue to be, one of the most celebrated lightweight champions in the sport.
