Alexander Gustafsson On Jon Jones: ‘He’s Not A Champion In My Eyes’

Add Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson to the list of people who don’t like former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones.

During the UFC Fight Night 109 post-fight press conference in Gustafsson’s native Sweden, The Mauler told reporters:

I don’t like him. I give him that he’s the best fighter of all-time, the best pound-for-pound fighter of our division — of course, everybody knows that. He hasn’t even lost a fight yet, he demolishes everyone he fights. But as a person, as a champion, he’s not a champion, in my eyes. He’s not a good person, in my eyes.

Much like last night against Glover Teixeira, Gustafsson went through five rounds of war against Jones back in 2013 at UFC 165. However, unlike his fight against Glover, Gus lost the match via unanimous decision, though many argued he won and virtually everyone wanted to see a rematch.

Gustafsson is confident that the next time he fights Jones, he will win, telling reporters that he could go ten rounds against him or reigning champion Daniel Cormier, whom The Mauler lost to back in 2015 via split decision.

But for now, Alexander Gustafsson will have to wait in line for a shot at the title and a rematch against Jones, as the former champion should be facing Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on July 29.

Emphasis on “should be.”
