The UFC 249 under card proves to be full of absolute heat as Aleksei Olenik defeats former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum via split decision.
Round one was dominated by Olenik, who let his combos fly and found numerous straight lefts on an overwhelmed Werdum. The former champion looked completely dazed as he absorbed shot after shot, unable to work much in the clinch before the end of the round.
Round two saw Werdum regain some of his vigor, firing off more kicks and landing a takedown late in the round working from the top. Though Olenik continued to land hard blows and managed to survive several submission attempts before ending the round on his feet.
Round three sat Werdum remember he’s a monster, begining with a big takedown and immediately working a kimura. Olenik escaped, but Werdum maintained top control and got the back. The majority of the round became Olenik somehow surviving endless sub attempts from Werdum and getting back on his feet to resume his striking. By the end, it was a close decision from the judges.
This win brings Olenik to 59-13-1 and Werdum to 23-9-1.
