AJ Agazarm has won the battle of the jiujiteiros over at Bellator 224 in Oklahoma. Agazarm squared off against “Jiu-Jitsu Jesus” Jacob Landin, finishing him in the closing minute of the first round via submission. Both fighters walked into the ring with a record of 0-1 in professional mixed martial arts. The win marks Agazarm’s first “W” as a pro.
The fight got off two a slower start, with the black belts committed to standing and exchanging vs. getting into an immediate grappling match. After an accidental nut check on Agazarm toward the middle of the first round Landin picked up the pace, increasing his leg kicks and short strikes. But Agazarm got a window to attack when Landin lost his footing and ended up on his back at AJ’s feet. Agazarm’s greenness as an MMA fighter showed, as he replied the the fall by striking standing vs. pouncing immediately into full metal gorilla mode while his opponent was open.
Agazarm did eventually switch into mount on top of Landin, who accidentally gave up his back as Agazarm started to ground and pound. AJ managed to get both hooks in, leaving Landin wide open to take some winging face shots which seemed to stun the bottom fighter into covering up. The break in Landin’s active defense gave Agazarm room to slip in a choke, and within a few seconds the tap came.
Agazarm’s professional fight record now stands at 1-1.
