Actor Tom Hardy Is Now A BJJ Blue Belt

Mad Max: Fury Road actor Tom Hardy has been promoted to blue belt in BJJ.

The actor, who also had one of the starring roles in the 2011 MMA film Warrior, has been shown sporting a brand new blue bet alongside Royal Marines veteran and triple amputee Mark Ormrod. Both blue belts are ambassadors for REORG: a nonprofit organization that serves the Royal Marines Jiu-Jitsu Association. The black belt beside them in the photo is Sam Sheriff, the founder of the organization. Though the photo was posted a few days ago, the caption specifies that it was taken before the latest COVID-related lockdown in the UK.

Hardy has also teamed up with REORG, Tatami, and the artist WarPaint to create the Giza gi seen in the photo. The gi’s sales will help support the work that REORG conducts for veterans in the jiu-jitsu community.

Hardy has long been a part of the jiu-jitsu community, though the past year has seemingly seen him increase his involvement with the martial art. He earned the second stripe on his white belt in April of last year, so his promotion to blue belt over a year and a half later is no great surprise.

The Jiu-Jitsu Times has reached out to REORG for more information on Hardy’s jiu-jitsu journey and will update this article upon receiving a response.
