Abu Dhabi, UAE, February 7, 2018: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) announced that the 10th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the largest event on the Jiu-Jitsu world calendar, will take place on April 16th. The announcement came through an official press conference organized by UAEJJF at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal. (Wednesday, February 7th), where it highlighted the schedule of events for 2018.
As the Championship’s organizer, UAEJJF announced that this season’s edition will be exceptional and unique as it celebrates 10 years of successes and excellence at both local and international levels. The Federation also announced an unprecedented participation of local, regional and international players. Hence, over the course of 13 days, the Championship will be bringing together the most famous names in Jiu-Jitsu at the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.
A number of dignitaries, including H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Advisor for ADEK’s Chairman, Khalil Al Saffar, Head of Head of Production and Operations at the Abu Dhabi Sports Channels, , Fouad Darwish, Palms Sports, Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Executive Director, Retail, Emaar Properties, Saed Hijazi, Assistant General Manager Sales for Jaguar Land Rover – Premier Motors, Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, CEO of UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, , as well as a host of local and international media and some of the top Jiu-Jitsu champions, attended the conference.

During the press conference, UAEJJF highlighted details around planned celebrations. The celebrations are to honor a Championship that saw the rise of some of the most prominent names in Jiu-Jitsu.
The Championship will launch with the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival from April 16th-21st which will be dedicated to the following categories: Juniors, Teens 10-17 years, People of Determination of various categories, Adult White-belts and Masters of all belt categories. The Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship will be held on April 22nd-23rd, while the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship will take place from April 24th to 27th, followed by the final round of Black and Brown belts on April 28, ending the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
This year’s championship will witness the participation of players in the Para-Jiu-Jitsu category during the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival. This is an indication of the interest of the UAE and the UAEJJF towards the disabled athletes and players by providing opportunities for them to compete for international titles.
King of the Mat
This year’s Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship will witness a new and strong addition to the competition, the “King of the Mat” competition at the Mubadala Arena on the last day of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championship. Winners of the last nine editions along with this year’s winner will face each other to compete for the title.

According to UAEJJF, the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship Award will be announced on April 29th The Federation will celebrate the best Jiu-Jitsu talents and entities that go to extra lengths in supporting the sport at a special ceremony honouring them for the 2017-2018 season.
Championship Awards
During the conference, UAEJJF officials revealed that the total value of cash prizes is estimated at more than AED 4 million, part of which will be distributed amongst the winners as follows:
Adult male and Black belt holders:
First, Second and Third prize winners will be awarded USD 15,000, 8,000 and 5,000 respectively.
Adult Female Black / Brown Belt holders:
First place winner will receive a prize of USD 10,000. Second place winner will receive USD 5,000 and third place winner will receive USD 3,000.
The Federation has also added to the Championship new prizes for the top three winners in the Youth and Master categories
Initiatives and events… In line with Corporate Social Responsibility
UAEJJF officials then stressed the sport’s values and principles and their efforts to spread Jiu-Jitsu’s culture in the community including the values of discipline, courage, friendship, patience, endurance, inspiration, leadership, team spirit, excellence, the ability to make the right decision at the right time. As a sport highly supported by the UAE leadership, Jiu-Jitsu also highlights values of loyalty to the country and its wise leadership. All of these principles, which have been adopted by the Federation since its inception, contribute in building a stronger generation of champions.
The Championship will also be hosting a number of community initiatives, with various events around awareness, education, health and sports workshops. This comes in line with the UAEJJF’s corporate social responsibility aiming to enhance its role in raising awareness of society.
The Championship in general is considered a world destination for all Jiu-Jitsu and sports enthusiasts. It is also an entertainment and educational destination for families and individuals to enjoy various events and activities.

HE Abdulmunem Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union and Senior Vice President of Jiu-Jitsu International Federation said: “Today, we are celebrating 10 years of success and creativity, and the graduation of generations of champions on and off the mat. The Championship’s 10th anniversary coincides with the Year of Zayed, which is a precious opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the noble values and principles instilled by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is also an opportunity to express our gratitude and commitment to build strong future generations,”
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation revealed the details of the championship’s medal which will represent the logo of Zayed Year and the 10th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
Al Hashemi cited the remarks of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, when he said: “About being above competition, titles and challenges, Sports is a field of communication, self-improvement, a refinement of skills and the promotion of values and good morals. Thanks to the insistence of my brothers and sisters on excellence and professionalism, Abu Dhabi has emerged as the world’s Jiu-Jitsu capital.”
Al Hashemi then confirmed: “This Jiu-Jitsu extravaganza is part of a completion of a series of great and prodigious successes achieved by the Championship both domestically and internationally during the last nine years,”
Al Hashemi also added: “The Championship comes back this year with a new look and an expanded program, thanks to the great efforts and hard work of the Federation and its strategic partners, who have worked together to complete the preparations.
The Jiu-Jitsu project, seeded and supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has flourished both locally and internationally to take the limits of the sport to a wider horizon in regards to the many values represented by the UAE’s citizens and the goals set by the wise leadership to invest in future generations,”
Al-Hashemi then ended by stressing that the UAEJJF is seeking to raise the competition to exceed international standards and is working to establish new standards that boast Abu Dhabi as a Jiu-Jitsu global center after incubating two main unions, namely the Jiu-Jitsu Asian Union (JJAU) and the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF).

Al Dhaheri: Jiu-Jitsu School is an important tributary and platform for spreading the game
