Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Miami: Brackets And Fight Schedule Released; Watch Matches On The AJP Tour Youtube Channel

Days away from the kick off of the 2020/2021 season, the AJP has released the fight schedule and brackets for all divisions in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour Miami. The event is scheduled September 27, at the Miami Airport Convention Center (MACC).

The pre-event weigh-in is scheduled Saturday, September 26, from 4pm to 6pm, at the MACC.

The on-date weigh-in is scheduled Sunday, September 27, from 8:30AM to 9:00Am, also at the MACC. Fights kick off at 10:00AM.

The brackets for all divisions in the adult and masters categories for the purple belt, brown belt, and black belt are also available. Click here to access the brackets now.

The adult black belt division for men and the adult brown/black belt division for women should be the highlight of the event. The brackets predict some intense battles in each weight class. Here are a few ones fans should be looking out for.

ADULT MALE BLACK BELT

Light-Featherweight (55kg) – The division features former ADGS champions Kalel Santos and Jonas Andrade. They could meet in the gold medal match.

Featherweight (62kg) – Former ADGS champion Diego Batista is waiting for his opponent in the semifinals. Also former ADGS champions Bebeto Oliveira and Hiago George are in the running for the gold medal too.

Lightweight (69kg) – Former ADGS champion Kennedy Maciel is back in the picture. Thiago Macedo, Raphael Cadena and Rodrigo Cardoso are also in the mix.

Welterweight (77kg) – The most populated weight division features big names such as former ADWPJJC and ADGS champion Marcio André. Americans Michael Liera Jr and Ricky Semiglia will defend their home turf. From Brazil, Jonatha Alves wants to write his name in ADGS history.

Middleweight (85kg) – Big names everywhere you look. Brazil’s Guthierry Barbosa and Ronaldo Junior will be a factor. From America, Joaquin Torres and Trey Pace have good chances.

Light-Heavyweight (94kg) – Once again, the USA and Brazil will battle for gold. From America, former ADGS champion Nathan Mendehlson and Aaron Johnson are in. Brazilians Fellipe Trovo and Fellipe Silva will go for it too.

Super-Heavyweight (120kg) – Devhonte Johnson and Max Gimenes are two strong contenders for the gold medal. The division should be thrilling.

ADULT FEMALE BROWN/BLACK BELT

Roosterweight (49kg) – Watch for a round-robin bracket between multiple times ADWPJJC and ADGS champion Mayssa Caldas, brown belt sensation Jessa Khan and American Sarah Takushi.

Light-Featherweight (55kg) – Thamires Aquino (BRA), Alexa Yanes (USA) and Eliana Carauni (ARG) are among the big names going for the gold medal in this weight class.

Lightweight (62kg) – Four Americans, one Brazilian, a Portuguese and a Philipine. Nicole Sullivan, Elizabeth Exell, Rachel Ranschau and Woods Heather will represent America. Brenda Palheta is coming from Brazil. The division should be a thriller.

Middleweight (70kg) – In the most populated weight class, athletes came from all over the world to compete. Rafaela Ribeiro (BRA), Nicholle Stoller (USA) and Pamela Boveda (PAR) are just three of them.

Heavyweight (95kg) – ADGS and ADWPJJC super-champion Gabrieli Pessanha is in. American Kyle Baker and Poland’s Maria Malyjasiak are also in the mix.

Episode #2 of the AJP Tour Podcast is out. Presenter Will Safford sat with Atos JJ black belt Michael Liera Jr. to talk about his career and his training routine and lifestyle on and off the mats. Liera Jr. is registered to compete in the 77kg division of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour Miami, September 27, at the Miami Airport Convention Center.

AJP Launches Health and Safety Guide for 2020/2021 season events

The AJP is working tirelessly to guarantee the safest environment possible for athletes, officials, referees and all of those involved in its events when the 2020/2021 season starts. That’s why the AJP has put together a comprehensive guide that sets rules and regulations for each event to happen in the safest way possible.

According to the AJP Events Safety Procedure Guidelines, all of those involved in the events will be asked to wear personal protective equipment like masks and gloves and also practice social distancing before and after matches.
