Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Father & Coach Of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Has Passed Away

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has passed away at age 57 following complications from COVID-19.

The father and coach of UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was hospitalized in May with pneumonia-like symptoms. Abdulmanap had preexisting heart conditions that were worsened after he contracted COVID-19. He was twice placed into a medically induced coma after receiving emergency heart surgery, with his condition improving and worsening multiple times over the course of his time in the hospital. The most recent news about Abdulmanap was that he was awake and free from COVID-19, but still in serious condition.

Now, however, Russian news outlet RT has revealed that Nurmagomedov Sr. has lost his battle with his medical issues, according to Chechen Republic leader and family friend Ramzan Kadyrov.

In addition to being the father of the UFC champion, Abdulmanap was also an accomplished sambo and wrestling athlete and coached his son and many other students in Dagestan. He was unable to attend many of Khabib’s fights due to being repeatedly denied a visa to the United States, but was able to attend his son’s most recent fight in which he defeated Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi.

The Jiu-Jitsu Times extends its condolences to the Nurmagomedov family in this tragic time.
