An NBA game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves became suddenly reminiscent of an MMA fight when players Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns got into a physical altercation. The two began shoving each other until they tumbled to the ground, and it wasn’t long before other players and officials also got involved.
One of the players who jumped in, Ben Simmons, ended up breaking up the fight by putting Towns in a choke, which seemed to be tight enough that Towns actually tapped out.
Both Towns and Embiid were ejected from the game for the scuffle; Simmons was not.
For all the times we’ve seen jiu-jitsu used in the streets (and, obviously, in the cage), it was quite a plot twist to see a choke used on the basketball court.
