67-Year-Old Woman Receives Black Belt After Winning Gold At Brazilian Nationals

If you believe you’re “too old” to succeed in jiu-jitsu, don’t say that in front of Nair Moto de Oliveira. This 67-year-old BJJ athlete hit multiple major milestones in one day when she became a Master 7 heavyweight champion her first time competing at Brazilian Nationals last weekend… and then stepped off the podium and received her black belt.

According to ESPN Brazil, Nair started training jiu-jitsu with her son, Danilo Moto de Oliveira. When Danilo first started at age eleven, Nair thought the sport was too violent. But eventually she tried it out for herself, and twelve years later, she’s not only still training, but also doing really, really well.

Check out the video of Nair being surprised with her black belt after receiving her gold medal, and don’t worry — no one will blame you if you tear up a little.
