Earlier this month, Third Coast Grappling revealed that they would be hosting an eight-man kumite-style event in the beginning of June, with the winner taking home $10,000. At the time, the promotion was still looking to fill its last two spots on the card, but now, we know who all the competitors will be for the event.
The promotion initially said that there wouldn’t be spectators at the event, but with local coronavirus restrictions easing up, they’re now allowing limited audience attendance. There will also be three superfights between Jordan Holy and Jacob Allphin, Cristian Guzman and Steven Baca, and Tevin Angel Sandoz vs Niles Peebles. 3CG will also continue with its tag-team concept with a kids’ match featuring Brody Banks and Moses Cabrera vs. Emilio Cantu and Jose Aguilar.
The -180lb eight-man tournament includes Roberto Jimenez, Jaime Canuto, William Tackett, Lucas Valente, Gustavo Batista, Manuel Ribamar, and Jake Watson. The bracket is set up as follows:
With so many recognizable faces on the card, such as rising local star Tackett and young prodigy Jimenez (who recently announced his departure from the Alliance affiliation), this will be a good opportunity to see the future of the sport in action. Valente is also a celebrated athlete on the 3CG stage, and he made headlines near the end of last year when he finished Bill Cooper with a textbook demonstration of the effectiveness of fundamental jiu-jitsu techniques.
With their return, 3CG joins Fight 2 Win and Submission Underground in the mid-pandemic professional grappling world. Providing restrictions continue to be lifted, we are likely to see even more events from 3CG in the near future.
3CG Kumite will take place on June 6 at 8 p.m. CST and will be available to stream live on FloGrappling.
