3rd Coast Grappling Gears Up For Second Kumite Event, Batista Gets Another Shot At Big Prize

The first 3rd Coast Grappling: Kumite event was a huge hit, with Gustavo Batista taking home the victory for the -180lb gi event and the $10,000 that came with the honor.

This week, Batista is trying his hand at another $10,000, and he won’t have an easy time getting it. 3rd Coast’s next Kumite event, set to be held this Saturday, June 20 in Texas, is going to be another stacked bracket, and it’s anyone’s guess as to who might come away with the victory.

No description available.

Contending for that big prize will be an assortment of some of jiu-jitsu’s brightest stars, many of whom have hit the ground running as soon as the opportunity to compete came up again.

On the opposite side of the bracket from Batista is brown belt standout Pedro Marinho, who had an impressive performance at June 6’s 3CG: Kumite I and just won last weekend’s JitzKings tournament. There’s a solid chance of seeing Marinho go up against Victor Hugo in the semifinals — a challenging match for either competitor. Standing in their way, though, are 2020 Euros champion Jonnatas Gracie and 2019 Pans champion Ricardo Evangelista.

Hugo is coming off a big win in the main event of Fight 2 Win 143 against fellow Kumite II competitor Fellipe Andrew. If Andrew wants a rematch with Hugo that quickly, though, he’ll have to get past a challenging array of opponents that include Jake Watson and either Tanner Rice or Batista. While there can only be one $10,000-winner, spectators really can’t lose with the entertainment potential of each match on the +180lb bracket.

The event will also feature six superfights, including one between 16-year-old standout Mona Bailey and Mahi Jamil. Other superfights include Nic Schwan vs. Andy Cordova, Cristian Guzman vs. Mario Fonseca, Zack Edwards vs. Justin Renick, Tiffany Butler vs. Emily Fernandez, and Camila Lopez vs. Susana Morado.

As with their first Kumite event, 3CG will have a limited number of spectators present for the event.

Will Batista win back-to-back 3CG events, or will someone else emerge to take home the big $10,000 prize?

3rd Coast Grappling: Kumite II will stream live on FloGrappling on Saturday, June 20.
