Texas-based promotion 3rd Coast Grappling has announced the eighth and final competitor in their middleweight tournament for their upcoming event 3CG 7.
The promotion’s seventh installment will feature a $15,000 prize for a first-place finish. At 3CG 6, it was Kaynan Duarte who went home with the Absolute Grand Prix title and the big cash prize, and this time around, we’ll see a number of familiar faces competing for the honors and cash.
Pedro Rocha was named as the final participant in the eight-man bracket, joining seven other contenders in a star-studded bracket.
The event will see the return of a number of 3CG veterans, including 3CG Kumite winner Gustavo Batista and 3CG: Kumite 5 runner-up Tye Ruotolo. Another participant in the middleweight tournament is teen phenom William Tackett, who made waves in the main event of 3CG 5 when he tapped out Fellipe Andrew in under a minute with a heel hook. Tackett was also in the Absolute Grand Prix at 3CG 6, and fans will undoubtedly be excited to see what he can do upon his return in the Middleweight Grand Prix.
Another competitor returning after 3CG 6 is Pedro Marinho, who has become a familiar face on the 3CG mats over the years. Marinho was recently promoted to black belt alongside his wife, and a win at 3CG 7 would certainly boost his resume at his new rank.
2019 ADCC veterans John Combs and Oliver Taza will also be in the running for the grand prize. Both of these athletes tested themselves in the 3CG: Kumite series last year, and Combs’ superfight at 3CG 6 led to a victory against Andy Cordova.
Finally, decorated wrestler Pat Downey, who has recently been trying his hand in the jiu-jitsu and submission grappling scenes, will be aiming to beat out a field of experienced submission artists to claim the championship title.
3CG 7 will take place on Saturday, June 19 and can be streamed live on FITE TV.
