3rd Coast Grappling is currently gearing up for their first kids’ tournament on January 19, and soon, they’ll be doing even more to help jiu-jitsu kids achieve their dreams.
The promotion has announced a scholarship program that will see $10-15k contributed towards a few lucky (and dedicated) kids’ college funds.
Here’s how it works: The money will come from a portion of the proceeds from the 3CG Kids events (the first of which has already sold out), and donations will also be accepted. Kids who wish to be considered for the scholarship money will have to qualify for one of two eight-person tournaments (one for boys and one for girls), not only through their jiu-jitsu, but also through essays or other academic efforts. Those who make the cut will compete in the tournament, and the winner will get the scholarship money, which will be divided between the male and female winner.
Promotor Ryan McGuire says that he intends to make the scholarship tournament an annual event, to take place at their kids’ event every year in December. The chosen age divisions will change yearly, and the inaugural event will see teens competing for the scholarship.
3rd Coast Grappling Kids I will take place Sunday, January 19 at Houston’s Scout Bar.
