3rd Coast Grappling put on another action-packed event for 3CG 7, which included a middleweight grand prix. At the end, 17-year-old Mica Galvao took home a lightning-fast win against fellow finalist Pedro Marinho, who defeated Roberto Jimenez to claim his place in the final match of the evening.
The win was Galvao’s second big win in as many days — the previous night, he defeated Oliver Taza at WNO: Jones vs. Ruotolo.
Galvao sat guard, and Marinho got low to work on passing. Marinho threatened an Estima lock to encourage Galvao to pull his legs away and continued working on a knee-cut pass. As he did, though, Galvao got a hold of Marinho’s arm, brought his leg under his opponent’s chin and trapped the shoulder with his knee, and applied a straight armlock. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment at just over two minutes into the match, Marinho tapped, and Galvao won $15,000.
Galvao was declared the winner of the 3CG 7 Middleweight Grand Prix.
