2019 Euros: Black belt absolute finals defined

Lucas Lepri. Ivan Trindade/GRACIEMAG

The Odivelas Multiusos Gymnasium in Portugal held this Saturday the first dose of black-belt–on–black-belt action of this year’s edition of the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship. By the end, the absolute finalists were known.

The favorite in the men’s section was Lucas Lepri (Alliance), who was able to apply his versatile game against much heavier athletes to reach the final. After beating Renan Rodrigues (Morumbi Academy) and Seif-Hedine Houmine (GFTeam), Lepri had an exhilarating semifinal match versus young Atos sensation Kaynan Duarte. The win came at the end.

Lepri’s opponent will be Gustavo “Braguinha” (Atos), who also had an arduous path to the final. First he beat ultra-heavyweight Antonio Assef (GFTeam), and after leaving his teammate Leonardo Lara behind, Gustavo defeated Igor “Tigrão” Schneider in their semifinal fight.

Luiza Monteiro (Atos) and Nathiely de Jesus (Rodrigo Pinheiro) are the female finalists. Luiza got past Amal Amjahid (Pat Academy) and Claudia do Val (De la Riva) while Nathiely was busy defeating Ana Carolina Schmidt (Garage JJ) and Bia Basílio (Atos).

It all comes to a head this Sunday, so be sure to check back with Graciemag.
