USADA has just announced that Leonardo Pires Nogueira has tested positive for a banned substance. As a result, this BJJ athlete has been banned for two years. USADA is the organization responsible for testing athletes and preserving the integrity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Leonardo Pires Nogueira is a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and hails from Dunwoody, GA. He is 29 years old and he tested positive for Clomiphene, which is a banned substance under the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and USADA protocol. Nogueira’s ban takes effect from June 5, 2016 because this is the day his sample was collected.
Under the terms of this ban, Leonardo Pires Nogueira is disqualified from all results he achieved in competitive matches sanctioned by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). He is also disqualified from any competitive results he achieved in matches organized by bodies that are Code signatory to WADA. In effect, Nogueira loses all points, prizes and medals he won on and subsequent to June 5, 2016.
Note that the IBBJF is not a signatory to the WADA code. However, IBBJF contracted WADA to conduct the testing and for this reason, IBJJF has imposed the sanction on Leonardo Pires Noguiera.
