18-Year-Old Standout Gabrieli Pessanha Promoted To Black Belt After Winning Gold At Worlds

Teenage phenom Gabrieli Pessanha has been promoted to black belt following her stunning performance at IBJJF Worlds this year.

The 18-year-old has been establishing herself as one of the most promising rising stars in the sport, standing at the top of the podium in virtually every competition she’s entered in recent memory. She won gold at Worlds and Pans last year as a purple belt, and she accomplished the same as a brown belt this year. Just over a month ago, she stunned fans in Abu Dhabi when she narrowly defeated Nathiely de Jesus and ultimately claimed gold at the UAEJJF World Pro.

Over the weekend, Pessanha earned her seventh gold medal (between division and absolute victories) at IBJJF Worlds since she first accomplished the feat as a blue belt, marking the fourth year in a row that she made it to the top of the podium at the competition. And then, her weekend became even more special when she was awarded her black belt.
