Jiu-jitsu is mostly lauded for the physical, mental, and social benefits it can offer humans, but one New Jersey academy is using it to help animals in their time of need.
On September 8, Sakura Jiu-Jitsu in Dover, NJ will be hosting an eleven-hour roll that will serve as a fundraiser to help 11th Hour Rescue — a pet rescue organization that seeks to save animals that are days or even hours away from being euthanized at other shelters. Sakura Jiu-Jitsu has set a goal of $11,000 for their fundraiser, which can be watched on Facebook Live via their academy page if you can’t attend in person.
Sakura BJJ head instructor Chris Civello sent the following statement to the Jiu-Jitsu Times:
“I (professor Chris Civello) will be rolling myself for 11 hours. Putting myself through an 11 hour shark tank so to speak. We are trying to break it down to 22, 30 minute rounds. We still need slots filled for this event. We are going to do it like a telethon so to speak. People can tune in on Facebook live via out Sakura BJJ Dover page and we will have a donation button running from 7am to 6pm as I am rolling. My hope is to hit the goal of coarse and then present them with the check the following week at their “puptober fest” event. Its a great event with amazing vendors music and food with proceeds donated to the 11th hour rescue.
We will also be taking donations on site if people want to come to the academy to support. Sakura BJJ will be donating the first month of every sign up as well day of the event.”
If you want to contribute ahead of the fundraiser, you can donate via the 11th Hour website.
The 11-hour roll will take place on September 8, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
