Tyron Woodley had a rough upbringing. Growing up in a poor area of St. Louis, Missouri, “The Chosen One” — as he would later be called — could have easily fallen into the traps so many poor young men fall into — drugs, gangs, and a life running from the law.
Instead Tyron focused on sports and school. He also told his mother that one day, he would buy her a house.
“So, it’s a very special Christmas for me for me,” Woodley said. “Since I was a 10-year-old kid, I always told my mom that I would buy her a house. I said, ‘Mom, I’m going to be a pro athlete and I’m gonna buy you a house.'”
Woodley was right on both accounts. Not only did he grow up to be the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion, but this past Christmas, he delivered on his promise and bought his mother a house.
Talk about a son a mother can be proud of!
