#1-Ranked UFC Bantamweight Contender Marlon Moraes Tests Positive For COVID-19

Top UFC bantamweight fighter Marlon Moraes has tested positive for COVID-19, he revealed to ESPN Brazil.

Moraes told the outlet that he had been “recently diagnosed” with the virus after experiencing symptoms for ten days. Although his wife also tested positive, their children did not. The fighter told ESPN Brazil that he and his wife were “very weak” and experienced “strong” symptoms. Moraes didn’t require a hospital visit, but his wife spent the day in the hospital and was given medicine before being put under observation.

Two days ago, Moraes shared a post on Instagram with his family, saying “Thank you all for your prayers and we will continue to pray for our friends and all humanity that has been facing this virus” and cautioning people against not treating the coronavirus seriously.

Moraes, who is a BJJ black belt under Ricardo Almeida, most recently fought in December, when he won a split-decision victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 245. He has stated that he wants his next fight to be against Cody Garbrandt in October.
