Jessa Khan to make ONE Championship debut against Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin

Two more top jiu-jitsu competitors are set to make their ONE Championship debuts. According to a source that spoke to Grappling Insider, Jessa Khan will face Amanda “Tubby” Alequin at ONE 159 on July 22.

The non-title match is slated for one, 10-minute submission-only round and will be contested in the atomweight division (105 lbs.). Unlike some previous ONE submission grappling matches, judges will decide the winner in the event neither athlete secures a submission.

A black belt under Guilherme Mendes and representative of Art of Jiu-Jitsu, Khan was a 2021 IBJJF Worlds medalist and a 2022 Pans champion. She is a well-rounded, aggressive grappler and holds notable wins over the likes of Pati Fontes, Jessica Crane, and fellow ONE Championship grappler Danielle Kelly.

Alequin is a veteran black belt competitor an accomplished athlete in her right. She was a 2016 IBJJF no-gi world champion and a 2019 no-gi Pans champion, and holds notable wins over Fontes, Gabi McComb, and Nathalie “Tata” Ribeiro.

Khan and Alequin have met once before, at the 2021 Who’s Number One championships. In that match, Alequin defeated Khan by lightning quick toehold submission. And while Alequin certainly has the skills to repeat that performance, fans can likely expect to see a longer, much more back-and-forth match at ONE 159 on July 22.
